چکیده
Abstract As obesity has reached epidemic proportions and given the current recognition of central adiposity as an important cardiometabolic risk factor, several researchers have focused on developing validating predictive indexes equations to evaluate Visceral Adipose Tissue (VAT). This study evaluates applicability Adiposity Index (VAI) for predicting in individuals treated a hospital In northeast region Brazil. The VAT was evaluated by computed tomography (CT) VAI calculated through specific each gender. sample involved adult elderly patients both genders followed up cardiology outpatient clinic. following parameters were collected: fasting glycemia, glycated hemoglobin, lipid profile, C-reactive protein (CRP) uric acid. simple linear regression used explanatory power relation volume determined CT. capacity CT 25.8% (p=0.004) males 19.9% (p<0.001) females. correlated strongly with triglyceride (TG) TG/high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio inversely HDL (p<0.001). Moreover, showed low correlation variables: abdominal circumference, total cholesterol, density lipoprotein, hemoglobin (p<0.05). associated variables considered factors, but exhibited regarding Thus, caution is recommended its use Brazilian individuals.

Visceral Adiposity Index
OBJECTIVE To individuate a novel sex-specific index, based on waist circumference, BMI, triglycerides, and HDL cholesterol, indirectly expressing visceral fat function. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS Visceral adiposity index (VAI) was first modeled on 315 nonobese healthy subjects. Using two multiple logistic regression models, VAI was retrospectively validated in 1,498 primary care patients in ...
متن کاملVisceral Adiposity Index A reliable indicator of visceral fat function associated with cardiometabolic risk
RESULTS — All components of metabolic syndrome increased significantly across VAI quintiles. VAI was independently associated with both cardiovascular (odd ratio [OR] 2.45; 95% CI 1.52–3.95; P 0.001) and cerebrovascular (1.63; 1.06–2.50; P 0.025) events. VAI also showed significant inverse correlation with insulin sensitivity during euglycemichyperinsulinemic clamp in a subgroup of patients (Rs...

متن کاملUtility of the Visceral Adiposity Index and Hypertriglyceridemic Waist Phenotype for Predicting Incident Hypertension
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to assess the utility of the visceral adiposity index (VAI) and the hypertriglyceridemic waist (HTGW) phenotype as possible hypertension (HTN) predictors in a high-risk population without diabetes and HTN. METHODS Incident HTN over a 7-year follow-up was assessed among 1,375 first-degree non-diabetic and non-hypertensive relatives of consecutive patients w...
متن کاملSignificantly Increased Visceral Adiposity Index in Prehypertension
BACKGROUND The prevalence of prehypertension has increased in China, and prehypertension frequently progress to hypertension over a short time period; both have become public health problems. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between the Visceral Adiposity Index (VAI) and blood pressure (BP) in China. METHODS A cross-sectional epidemiological survey was conduct...
